Brief Bio

Praveen Kumar Singh

Praveen K Singh has received a technical bachelor's degree in electronics and communication engineering from Gautam Buddh Technical University, India, in 2011 and a master’s in environmental science from Central University Rajasthan, India, in 2016. During his Ph.D., he was awarded a Doctoral Fellowship at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD)in Nepal. Singh is researching the impacts of air pollution and climate change on the glaciers of the Hindu Kush-Himalayan region using remote-sensing, field-based observation, and modeling techniques.

Rajeev Ranjan

Rajeev obtained B.Tech. in Geotechnology & Geoinformatics from Bharathidasan University and a Master's in Geoinformatics from IIITM-K Trivandrum. He has previous work experience in research as well as in the industry for three years. He is currently working on Snowmelt Runoff Modeling for the Himalayan region.

Abhilasha Dixit

Abhilasha is working on “Assessment of Hydrological budget and its variability in large Himalayan basins.” This research is designed to be an invaluable academic contribution to the process of water resource management for the people of IGB basins. She holds an M.Tech. degree in Spatial Information Technology (SIT) and her B.Tech degree in Electronics & Communications. Her research interest includes Remote Sensing, Geographical Information System (GIS), Cryosphere, Hydrological modelling. 

Akshay Pandey

Akshay Pandey obtained his Bachelor and Master degree in Computer science & Engineering and is currently doing his PhD at IIT Roorkee. Prior to starting his PhD, he worked as Project Associate at IIT Roorkee on contract basis. His research interests include development of remote sensing and Web GIS based techniques for agriculture application. He is using UAV (Drone), Spectroradiometer for his research. He is also having experience in Geospatial Tool, Web Development, Software Development, Networking, Server Management.

Ravi Kiran Nandyala

Ravi Kiran obtained his Masters in Structural Engineering from  IIT Delhi in 2005 and is currently doing his PhD at IIT Roorkee. Prior to starting his PhD, he worked as an Assistant Professor at  NIT Andhra on contract basis. Before moving to academia he was a Senior Design Manager at SEMAC Consultants. While at SEMAC, he took a break and worked at IIT Kanpur, on the 'Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit Process of the Police Headquarters Building, New Delhi', a part of the 'Delhi Earthquake Safety Initiative for Lifeline Buildings' and subsequently attended an EU funded Masters in Earthquake Engineering.

Akansha Patel

Akansha's work is mainly focused on glacier variation monitoring and modeling over the Karakoram-Himalayan region. The work uses remote sensing observation for analyzing the glacier mass balance and their sensitivity to climate change. 

Sashikanta Sahoo

Sashikant is currently pursuing his PhD at IIT Roorkee since 2018 and also working as Scientist in Punjab Remote Sensing Centre, Ludhiana. Prior to this, he has received his Master’s in Geoinformatics with specialisation of Geological hazards from ITC, The Netherlands. His research interests mainly focus on Groundwater modelling, Remote Sensing (Microwave SAR and Optical RS) and Geostatistics. He is currently working in his PhD research on Groundwater dynamic modelling and drought characterisation over Indian Indus region using both ground and satellite based observations.


Annie Singla

Annie Singla works in the area of artificial intelligence, natural language processing, knowledge management, social media. Her thesis is entitled "Knowledge Management of Social Media Data for Disaster Management". She has got a copyright invention from the Government of India for developing "DisDSS: A web-based decision-support system to predict the disaster-related social media messages".  She has several research papers published in reputed journals and conferences. Prior to this, she has done Masters of Technology from CoEDMM, IITR and Bachelors of Technology from PTU, Jalandhar. She has worked as an Assistant Professor at Department of Information Technology, Jaypee University of Information Technology, Solan.

Mugesh is currently doing his research on Local Site Effects and Structural Response on Earthquake Early Warning System. Prior to starting his PhD, he worked as a Research Project Trainee at Central Building Research Institute (CSIR-CBRI) Roorkee. He obtained his Bachelor in Civil Engineering and Masters in Structural Engineering from Anna University Chennai. His research interests include Local Site Effects, Ground Response Analysis, Earthquake Early Warning and Seismic Evaluation of Structures.

My endeavors are towards making our society resilient against landslide disasters, and I am working on Landslide mitigation and management. My tools are Machine Learning, Python Programing Langauge, MatLab, ArcGIS, and Erdas Imagine. I am a good thinker and a quick learner. I am an optimistic and proactive person. I believe in learning and experiment.

Shubham received the B. Tech. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow, India, in 2015 and  M.Tech. degree from the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, ISRO, Dehradun, India, in 2017. He is currently working on the Development of SAR Remote Sensing techniques for Urban Monitoring and Snow Parameters Estimation.  His research interests include various aspects of SAR remote sensing techniques like PolSAR, PolInSAR, PsInSAR, and SAR Tomography for cryosphere, urban and forests applications.

My research area involves the use of various Remote Sensing and GIS techniques for different applications basically in disaster mitigation and management. Currently, I am working on  Dhauliganga, Uttarakhand, India Coalescent Natural Disaster which took place on 07 February 2021 and focus on more such events to prevent or at least to some extent alleviate future disasters emanating from similar processes.

Aishwarya did her master's in Disaster Assessment and Mitigation from MNIT Jaipur in 2019. During her post-graduation, she worked on different concrete mixes and their effects when subjected to fire. She is currently working on a model to predict the post-fire performance of Concrete filled steel tubular columns for low to high/ ultra-high material strength.

Tanu Gupta

Tanu received her MTech degree in Disaster Mitigation and Management from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, in 2019. During her masters, she worked on abnormal crowd movement recognition from short video clips. She is currently working on developing a model for efficient natural disaster response and recovery using social media data under the supervision of Prof. Sudip Roy. Her research interest includes exploring various dimensions of ICTs for Disaster Risk Reduction.

Shivani did her bachelors in Planning from NIT Bhopal in 2013 and M.Tech in Disaster mitigation and management from IIT Roorkee in 2015. She had field experience of 4 years (2015-19) in disaster related projects with several National and International organization like DHI Singapore, ERN Mexico, AIT Bangkok, TARU, SEEDS India, Uttarakhand & UP Govt. etc. in projects like DRA Uttarakhand (World Bank funded project), Retrofitting of old buildings, Multi-Hazard Risk Assessment, Non-Structural Retrofitting, Mason's training program on Earthquake resistant construction etc. From 2019 august onwards she is a research scholar at CoEDMM and working for Indian Himalayan Region for Multi-Hazard. She is also a Researcher for NMHS and CoPREPARE, who are also working on Himalayan Hazards.
